Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.

NOTE: This is an 1880/79-S overdate.

OBVERSE ATTRIBUTES: The remains of the 9 is seen as metal with Die polishing lines at the top of the cavity of Date digit 0 and a bulge is present at 10 o'clook in the Field outside the digit. Date digit 1 is doubled at the right side of the shaft and under the flag. The second Date digit 8 is doubled at the outside of the upper loop and a few metal dots are present at the right outside of the lower loop. Markers: None.

REVERSE ATTRIBUTES: The Mint Mark is set high in the upright position and is repunched. A vertical spike extends downward from the middle top loop cavity and a curved line is seen in the middle inside of the lower loop cavity. Markers: None.

COMMENTS ON THIS COIN:

• This specimen has all of the attributes associated with the VAM-11 and has been certified as a VAM-11 by the ANACS.
• This is a slanted Date Variety. The last two digits are higher from the Rim than the first two digits. As a result of my February 28, 2022 communications to the VAMWorld community, VAMWorld's VAM-11 Page was amended to officially note the slanted nature of this Variety's Date.
• A thread-like impression can be see on Lady Liberty's neck. This feature can be viewed in the Section entiled Features of Special Interest.

SPECIAL NOTE: A feature that has been described as a "Snail" due to its shape, appears on a leaf of Right Wreath Cluster #4. This feature is of the Hub and is seen on Morgan Silver Dollars that were minted from at least 1880 through 1904. A photograph of this interesting looking feature can be viewed in the Section entitled Features of Special Interest.

Comment: This is a slanted Date Variety. The 1 is doubled under the flag and on the right side of the column. The second 8 is doubled on the lower right outside of the upper loop. The remains of the 9 is seen as metal with Die polishing lines at the top of the cavity of the 0. At 10 o'clock, a bulge is present in the Field ouside of the 0.	Comment: The Mint Mark is set high in the upright position and is repunched. The arrow shows evidence of repunched nature of the Mint Mark (a curved line in the middle inside of the lower loop).
