Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.

Obverse: III2-10.
  • Date is set in the Normal position. Metal in the lower loops of the 8's and the upper loop of the 2. Horizontal line in the lower portion of the 2.
  • Long die crack from the field above LS2 to/across Liberty's neck, to/across the lower hair curls above the date into the field, then bisecting RS2 and ending at RS3.
  • Clashed st from the reverse trust at the lower hair vee above RS2.
  • Strong wreath clash at the cap vee and at the back of lower part of the cap rear.
  • Weak wreath clash at the back of Liberty's cap across from the UM of UNUM.
  • Small gouge in front of the cap bun.
  • Minor doubling at the top of the Phrygian cap.
  • Die crack from the field below the U of UNUM across the cap bun and ending in the field just above the cap top. Crack resumes at the right wheat leaf, across the wheat kernals and ends at the left wheat leaf.
  • Radial die crack from rim down thru left U in PLURIBUS to hair with displaced field break. Crack intersects a horizontal crack from below the L of LIBERTY across the front of Liberty's hair.
  • Die gouge from the upper left arm of the Y of LIBERTY across the foot of the T into the front part of Liberty's hair ending just above the forehead. There is a tangent gouge that runs through the bottom of the Y and into the left side of the cotton blossom.
  • Die gouge from the middle fo the two cotton leaves down into the cap and hair ending at the top rear of the small bear claw.
  • Die gouges in front of the D-void as well as in the void. Long gouge in the hair to the rear of the D-void.
  • Die chips at the void below the small bear claw.
  • Die gouge thru the rear part of Liberty's nostril.
  • Strong wing clash at Liberty's neck. No letter transfer as well as no neck clash line below the n of In on reverse.
Reverse: C3e.
  • Oval O mintmark is centered and is tilted left.
  • Beveling at the tips of the lower tail feathers.
  • A few thick polish lines in the eagle's upper tail feathers.
  • Small die chips in the eagle's wing/neck gap.
  • Strong cap vee clash at the inside of RW1-RW2.
Comments: Obverse is shared with VAM-14. Reverse shared with VAM-6, VAM-16, VAM-17, VAM-17A, VAM-17B, VAM-27, VAM-28, VAM-39, and VAM-47.
