OBVERSE ATTRIBUTES: The letters
E,
P,
L,
R, and
B of the Obverse Motto,
E. PLURIBUS UNUM, show doubling. The
E at the bottom and right side of vertical bar, the
P at bottom, the
L at the top left and bottom, the
R at the left and the
B at the bottom and right inside of both loops. The Obverse Legend,
LIBERTY, shows doubling to the left.
Markers: A diagonal Die polishing line can be seen in front of Liberty's Eye and two horizontal gouges are positioned at the back of Liberty's Nostril. One of the tips of the Fourth Right Star is broken.
REVERSE ATTRIBUTES: Thick Die file lines can be seen in the mid-section of both the Eagle's Wings, with two strong diagonal die file lines situated between the Eagle's Legs. An engraved Feather is seen between the Eagle’s Right Wing and Leg (Left Wing and Leg as viewed). The
R in the last word of the Reverse Motto,
In God We Trust, is partially broken.

NOTE: The VAM-80 is a Top 30 1878-S Variety.
COMMENTS ON THIS COIN:
- This coin has all the attributes associated with the VAM-80 and has been certified as a VAM-80 by the ANACS.
- Liberty's Nostril appears doubled at the top edge.
- The Ear also looks doubled at the inside left and at the bottom of the Ear Lobe. There is possible doubling at the inside right Ear wall.
- There are thick Die file lines in and around the Wreath Bow.
- The D in the Denomination, ONE DOLLAR, is doubled at the bottom.
- There are two gouge-like features on the Eagle's lower Tail Feathers. A large one that travels from the Arrow Shaft, through the 5th and 4th Tail Feathers, and into the 3rd Tail Feather. Another smaller one is seen connecting the 2nd and 3rd Tail Feathers at the tip.
- A feature similar to the "Snail" is seen crawling on the top Arrow Feather. The "Snail" is a feature that is generally visible on Morgan Silver Dollars from at least 1883 to the initial discontinuance after 1904.
