1887-P VNC-13 012817
Characteristics are described with a degree of granularity intended for die identification more so than for die classification. A characteristic may not span the entire die progression. Thus, not all characteristics may be present in any one coin.
OBVERSE ATTRIBUTES: Doubling is seen on the first four Right Stars and the first two Left Stars. The first two Right Stars have more pronounced doubling than do the first two Left Stars. In all cases, the Stars are doubled at the bottom. Additionally, there is slight doubling at the top of the 7 in the Date, on the Designer’s Initial and Liberty's lower hair. The top of the 7 is seen in the denticles under the second 8 as a curved bar in the denticle space below the second 8 and short vertical bar in the denticle space immediately to the left.

REVERSE ATTRIBUTES: Doubling is seen in STATES OF AMERICA as well as on the Right Star. Also, some outer edges of the leaves on Right Wreath Cluster #3 are doubled. All the doubling face toward the Rim.

COMMENTS ON POSTED COIN:
- This coin has all of the attributes associated with the VAM-13. While it certainly appears to be a VAM-13, my Page Heading notes it as a Variety Not Certified (VNC) as it has not been certified as a VAM-13 by the PCGS, NGC, or ANACS. It has, however, been confirmed as a VAM-13 by VSS.
- A slight Obverse Clash Line exits Liberty's Neck Line below her Jaw and Neck Line joint. This line was created by the clashing of the Eagle's Right Wing.
- The clash event left marks in the vicinity of Liberty's Lip to Chin, as well as at the back bottom part of the Phrygian Cap.
- A slight Reverse Clash Line can be seen running from the edge of the Eagle's Right Wing toward, but not quite reaching, the n in the first word of the Reverse Motto, In God We Trust. This Line was created by the clashing of Liberty's Neck Line.
- The clash event also left marks under the Eagle's Chin at the Neck Line and at the back upper part of the Eagle's Head. This marks were created by the clashing of the hair swirls below Liberty's Ear.
- Both the Left and Right Wreath Clusters #1 show the result of the clash event.
NOTE: While this specimen experienced a clash event, I see no evidence of letter transfers.
